Lourdes Bethencourt and Jacob Reyes were the overall winners of this year’s edition
The ninth edition of the Ultrabike Club Santa Rosa Lanzarote concluded successfully with the recovery of the original circuit, with the start and finish line at the Club Santa Rosa facilities, where the nearly 500 registered athletes were able to enjoy the spectacular atmosphere created by the professionals and MTB enthusiasts who were present over the two days of this event.
The IX Ultrabike made its presence felt from Saturday with the ever acclaimed time trial competition held in La Graciosa, which left no one unmoved with a sporting spectacle on the eighth island, which once again provided a dream day of sport amid its characteristic streets and a paradisiacal circuit that never disappoints and continues to function as one of the main attractions.
The 15km time trial gave way to two more categories: the Costa Teguise Bike, of 55km; and the Ultrabike of 111km. Lourdes Bethencourt (6:10:49) and Jacob Reyes (4:46:46) were proclaimed champions of one of the most consolidated MTB races on the national scene with the sum of the times achieved during the two stages.
On the women’s podium, Cathaysa Sánchez (6:38:08) and Lena Kristina Berntsonn (7:17:39) accompanied Bethencourt; while Antonio Padrón (4:47:37), who had been third in the time trial, and the Austrian Lukas Kaufmann, who was fourth in the race on the eighth island, rounded off the men’s top positions.
Up to four Lanzarote municipalities served as the stage for this now legendary event which continues to attract both amateurs and professionals to Lanzarote, thanks to its excellent circuits which have room for all kinds of demands, while at the same time crossing spectacular Lanzarote landscapes which are ideal for this sporting discipline.
This was all accompanied by very pleasant weather conditions, with clear skies, an average temperature of 25º throughout the weekend, and a steady breeze, which made the event an invitation to enjoy it both as participants wearing a race bib, and from outside, joining the large number of fans who were gathered in different parts of the island.
This was also the case both before the race and after the obligatory prize-giving ceremony. The organisation provided a buffet lunch for the competitors and their guests to preserve the special atmosphere of the Ultrabike Club Santa Rosa Lanzarote, where experiences, stories and anecdotes are shared, making this competition a memorable one for everyone who took part.
