The race was attended by nearly 600 triathletes divided over three distances: Supersprint, Olympic and Half
The grand finale of the Ocean Lava Planet was again held in Lanzarote, specifically in Puerto del Carmen, and was a highly anticipated event after last year’s edition was cancelled due to the pandemic. Nearly 600 triathletes accepted the challenge of facing one of the three modalities offered by the organisation in this 11th edition of the event. The island of Lanzarote once again demonstrated the great conditions it offers for the celebration of this type of international event.
On Friday, coinciding with the collection of bibs, the Ocean Lava Kids event was held in the Plaza de las Naciones, focusing on future triathletes. The organisation had prepared several circuits adapted to the ages of the young athletes. Faces that showed nerves and excitement before the start expressed smiles and gestures of satisfaction after crossing the finish line. For Juan Antonio Carreño, the event’s main organizer, it was “essential to keep holding the event for the youngest because we have to support our future society to be sportier and healthier.”
From very early on Saturday triathletes began to arrive at the beach of Los Pocillos and soon a fantastic sporting and social atmosphere was generated among the participants – the moments before the starts were marked by groups of friends from different triathlon clubs chatting and athletes receiving last instructions from coaches.
The first strokes in Los Pocillos came from the participants of the “Supersprint” modality, in which triathletes who are starting out in this sport participate. These triathletes had a 400-metre swim, 11 kilometres of cycling and a 2.5-kilometre run ahead of them.

The trophy ceremony put the finishing touch to the 11th Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon and the organisation has already started work to prepare the next edition of this great event. Juan Antonio Carreño gave a few words of thanks to all the participants who participated in this edition of the test, and expressed his hope that as an organiser he had met the expectations of each athlete. He also thanked the different public and private institutions for the support that enabled this event to be held.
