The Italian runner took the victory in Lanzarote Marathon’s 21km distance and if there is one thing that she is certain of, it’s that the place has captivated her: “I love the island’s wild beauty”
Italian runner Elisa Melilli has won the 21km race in her first experience as a participant in the Lanzarote Marathon. Over the years, the ASICS athlete has chosen the island as her destination for training and relaxation, but last year she set herself the goal of crossing the finish line of this prestigious race.
“Lanzarote is a unique island that gives you extra motivation to train.”
She began her running career at the age of 9 and, since then, the discipline has become her “escape valve and source of inspiration“. She constantly shares positive messages on her various social media platforms, seeking to encourage participation in the sport so more people can enjoy its benefits. Melilli appreciates all aspects of the running world, from the preparation she puts into achieving her personal bests, to the participation and enjoyment of the events themselves.
She has completed more than “20 half marathons” in different parts of the world, and 21 km is her favourite distance. Her goal is to take the leap to the full marathon distance in the near future, but she recognises that the 21 km is a unique experience.
“Lanzarote stands out for its exceptional sporting atmosphere.“
According to the Italian athlete, the Lanzarote Marathon was particularly memorable due to the enjoyable atmosphere and the picturesque course. Despite having to deal with the wind, she found strength in the proximity to the sea and the view of the volcanoes, crossing the finish line with a smile on her face to claim victory.
Elisa has explored all the Canary Islands, but Lanzarote holds a special place in her heart, and she describes it as her favourite island. For her, coming to Lanzarote means finding an environment where people are constantly active, whether running, training for triathlon or swimming. The island stands out for its exceptional sporting atmosphere, giving her an extra boost of motivation in her training. In addition, as a nature lover and cactus fan, Melilli appreciates the island’s wild beauty, describing it as a place she loves.
