You discover something unique about Lanzarote when you explore the island by bike – a mixture of freedom, silence, the wind in your face and the adrenaline in your legs. Here, there are no traffic lights to slow you down and no noise to break your concentration. Just you, the road, the horizon… and that feeling of being exactly where you want to be.
Cycling in Lanzarote is synonymous with sunrises over volcanoes, pedalling through landscapes from another planet, gentle curves that turn into unexpected challenges, and descents that bring that childlike smile back to your face. Lanzarote is experienced differently when you’re on two wheels: every climb is a challenge, and every rest is a reward for the eyes.
An island designed for cycling (and for challenging you)
Cyclists arriving here for the first time are often surprised to discover that Lanzarote offers much more variation in elevation than you might think. From a distance, its silhouette may appear gentle, but as soon as you get those wheels turning, the island speaks to you in the form of climbs that come one after another without warning. In just three or four hours, you can easily accumulate more than 900 meters of elevation gain, and that, added to the island’s characteristic wind, turns every route into a quality workout.

But the best thing of all is how the landscape accompanies you. With each stroke of the pedal, the surroundings change: from black lava fields to impossible vineyards in La Geria; from the infinite blue of the ocean in Famara to the volcanic red of Timanfaya. And always, always, that feeling of peace that only cycling can give: the mind in silence, the body present, and the soul flying.
Essential routes in Lanzarote if you love cycling
Here are some routes that, as passionate cyclists ourselves, we can wholeheartedly recommend. Because we’ve done them. Because we’ve fallen in love with them. And because we want you to experience them too:
Route 1: Costa del Rubicón and Montaña Roja
📍 Playa Blanca – Faro de Pechiguera – Montaña Roja – Femés
🟢 Distance: 40-60 km | ⛰️ Elevation gain: 500-700 m
A perfect route to start exploring the south of the island. Leave Playa Blanca at dawn and enjoy the contrast between the sea and the volcanic rock. The climb to Femés will test you, but the descent afterwards will be pure joy.
Route 2: La Geria – Uga – Tinajo – Mancha Blanca
📍 From Tías or Yaiza, passing through La Geria and Timanfaya
🟠 Distance: 60-80 km | ⛰️ Elevation gain: 800-1000 m
A classic. The road through the vineyards offers unforgettable views, and cycling along the edge of Timanfaya National Park will make you feel like you’re crossing another planet. Don’t forget to stop for a moment to contemplate the silence of Mancha Blanca.

Route 3: North of the island and Mirador del Río
📍 Costa Teguise – Teseguite – Haría – Mirador del Río – Órzola
🔴 Distance: 80-100 km | ⛰️ Elevation gain: approx. 1200 m
A spectacular route, both for its views and its difficulty. The climb to Mirador del Río from Haría is legendary: a constant gradient, sharp bends, and at the end, a breathtaking panoramic view. The descent to Órzola will be your reward.
Route 4: El Jable – Costa Teguise – San Bartolomé
📍 Ride through Arrecife, San Bartolomé, and the heart of the island
🟠 Distance: 50-70 km | ⛰️ Elevation gain: 600 m
Perfect for windy days, as it allows you to train in more sheltered areas. The terrain of El Jable invites you to speed up: flat, wide sections where you can enjoy the speed. Ideal for long series or endurance training.
The Vuelta Ciclista a Lanzarote: a non-competitive challenge to share
If racing bibs aren’t your thing, but you enjoy the atmosphere of the peloton, the Vuelta Ciclista a Lanzarote, organized by Club La Santa, is the perfect event for you. It is held every year in a non-competitive spirit: two consecutive stages in which the important thing is not the timing, but the enjoyment.

The route varies slightly each year but always includes the most spectacular and challenging areas of the island, with excellent logistical support and a contagious atmosphere of camaraderie. It’s the perfect way to explore the island in the company of cyclists from all over Europe, without pressure… and with lots of laughs.
Cycling all year round, no excuses
Another of Lanzarote’s great advantages is that you can come and cycle at any time of the year. With mild temperatures all year round (between 17 ºC and 27 ºC) and only a few days of rain per year, the island is an all-seasons outdoor gym.
In addition, you’ll find well-paved roads, respectful drivers, rental and technical support services, and an active and welcoming cycling community. Whether you come alone, as a couple, or in a group, you won’t feel like a stranger here. Here, we all speak the language of two wheels.
Lanzarote on a bike: a trip you’ll always remember
Cycling is freedom. It’s that moment when, after a long climb, you stop, look around, and feel that it was all worth it. Lanzarote is made for these kinds of moments: to experience sport with a soul, to reconnect with yourself and to enjoy cycling without an eye on the clock, without obligations, just for the pure pleasure of riding.

So, if you’re looking for a place to train, escape, or simply feel alive on your bike, Lanzarote awaits you with open arms… and legs ready to pedal.
What are you waiting for? Come and discover it for yourself!
