Lydia Dant and José Manuel Hernández took victory in the Middle Distance
The Ocean Lava Lanzarote 2024 took place in Puerto del Carmen on Saturday, bringing together more than 500 triathletes in its fourteenth edition. This event not only highlighted the beauty of Lanzarote, but also created a vibrant and festive atmosphere, where local and visiting athletes enjoyed an unforgettable day. Hundreds of fans cheered on the competitors along the avenue of Puerto del Carmen, filling the air with energy and enthusiasm.
The main event, “Middle Distance”, included 1,900 metres of swimming, 90 kilometres of cycling and 20 kilometres of running. The competition began on the spectacular Playa de Los Pocillos, followed by a bicycle tour that allowed the triathletes to admire the impressive landscapes of La Geria, with its characteristic vineyards and volcanic landscapes. The exciting foot race took place along the lively avenue of Puerto del Carmen, where the support of the public encouraged the athletes.
Lydia Dant shone again, taking the women’s victory with a time of 4 hours, 24 minutes and 59 seconds, beating her competitors by more than 49 minutes. Nat Morris and Elsa Werth completed the women’s podium. In the men’s category, José Manuel Hernández was crowned champion with a time of 4 hours, 17 minutes and 36 seconds, followed by Tom Ward and Víctor Manuel González.
The “Olympic” event also attracted numerous participants, who faced 1,500 metres of swimming, 40 kilometres of cycling and 10 kilometres of running. Laurens Veruten stood out in the men’s category, finishing in 1 hour, 57 minutes and 15 seconds, while Jorge Wilkes and Rasmus Pilegaard accompanied him on the podium. In the women’s category, Mia Leadbeater dominated the event with a time of 2 hours, 19 minutes and 12 seconds, followed by Caroline Nowak and Laura Socas.
The young triathletes participated in the “Supersprint” event, which consisted of 400 metres of swimming, 11 kilometres of cycling and 2.5 kilometres of running. Rodrigo Callero stood out in the men’s category, finishing in 40 minutes and 1 second, while Aoibjeann Ryan won in the women’s category with a time of 43 minutes and 31 seconds.
Ocean Lava Lanzarote 2024 reaffirmed its importance in the regional and international triathlon calendar, becoming an ideal meeting point for lovers of sport and the island’s natural beauty.
