Under the clear skies and bright sun of Lanzarote on Saturday, 8th December, a total of 2,400 runners crossed the starting line of the 28th edition of the Font Vella Lanzarote International Marathon
The spectacle started at 8 o’clock in the morning when this key event in athletics started from Sands Beach Resort, Costa Teguise. Lovers of running from all over the world began their challenge enjoying a unique course running next to the sea, along the south coast of Lanzarote.
The Finn Ludwig Lefevre was the first to complete the course, stopping the clock at 02.31.53. Second place went to David Schoenherr with 02.36.37 on the clock, while the third place on the podium was occupied by Tofol Castanyer who completed the race in 02.37.40.
In the women’s category, Veerle D’Haese took victory by completing the course in 02.54.21. She was followed by Bertine De Vries (03.08.27) and Rebeca Ruiz-Díez (03.17.05).
Half Marathon
The Half Marathon event started at 10.30 a.m. from Playa de Los Pocillos, Puerto del Carmen. Felipe Gómez was proclaimed champion over this distance after completing the course in 01.14.43. He was followed by Denis Prikulis (01.15.11) and Arturo Quijada (01.16.26).
In the women’s category, the native of Lanzarote, Aroa Merino finished the race in first position in a time of 01.17.44. Second and third positions went to Treena Johnson (01.30.44) and Natalie Batey (01.34.09), respectively.
10 Kilometres
The 10 km race took place in the capital of Lanzarote, Arrecife. This distance was clearly dominated by Jaume Leive (00.33.26). Lucho González and Tinguaro Quintero, both natives of Lanzarote, finished in 00.35.09.
Jessica Craig was the winner in the women’s category (00.40.47), followed by Tracy Millomore (00.41.34) and Bella Bayliss (00.41.38).
