Lanzarote has a peculiar way of surprising you. You think you know it for its beaches, its wine or its lunar landscapes… and then you discover two golf courses perfectly integrated in the lava flows, palm trees and ocean blue. Playing golf in Lanzarote is not just a sport: it is an experience for all the senses.
Golf is a tranquil, elegant and deeply satisfying way to connect with the island, while enjoying perfect weather all year round. Whether you are just starting out or have already mastered your swing, Lanzarote is the perfect destination for combining holidays and golf, surrounded by unique landscapes and with an energy found nowhere else.
Golf on the Different Island: all year round and always with good views
One of the great attractions of Lanzarote for golfers is its mild, stable climate, which allows you to play in any season of the year. With temperatures ranging between 19º and 27ºC and hardly any rainy days, it is possible to plan games without worrying about bad weather. In addition to this, there is a sea breeze that cools the game while (almost) never hindering it, and a friendly sun that accompanies you without punishing you. Playing golf here means playing in peace and quiet, with space, with no overcrowding, and surrounded by spectacular volcanic nature that turns each hole into a picture postcard.
Where to play golf in Lanzarote?
Currently, the island has two first class golf courses, each with its own personality and privileged enclaves:
Located in the tourist area of Puerto del Carmen, this 18-hole course (par 72) was designed by Ron Kirby and offers panoramic views of the ocean and Fuerteventura. The layout is wide, comfortable and accessible for beginners and experienced players alike, with undulating fairways and generous greens to suit all levels.
It also has a driving range, putting green, equipment and buggy hire, and a golf school, perfect for those who want to improve their technique or take their first steps in the sport. Opened in 2008, this course has become a benchmark for golf in the Canary Islands.
Alternatively, there is Costa Teguise Golf on the slopes of the Tahíche volcano and surrounded by palm trees. This 18-hole course (par 72) was designed by John Harris, with natural slopes and technical fairways that make it an entertaining challenge for the most experienced players. Its beauty and difficulty lead many golf enthusiasts to consider it a hidden gem.
Here, the surroundings are quieter and wilder, and the greens are carefully tended. It also has a school, shop, restaurant and practice area. It opened in 1978, making it the oldest course on the island and one of the most charismatic in the archipelago.
Advantages of playing golf in Lanzarote
Apart from the climate and the scenery, playing golf in Lanzarote offers a series of advantages that make all the difference:
- Uncrowded courses: no long waits and no feeling of being crowded – here the pace of play flows naturally.
- Peaceful and well-tended surroundings: nature, design and sustainability come together in harmony.
- Hotel accommodation nearby: in the areas of Puerto del Carmen as well as in Costa Teguise and Arrecife, you can find accommodation just a few minutes away from both courses.
- Golf schools and private lessons: ideal for beginners or to improve your technique during your holidays.
- Complementary activities for relaxation and leisure: from spas and beaches to local gastronomy, hiking or cultural visits.
More than a decade bringing together sport, landscape and hospitality
The importance of golf on the island has been consolidated over the years, among other reasons, thanks to an essential event in the senior sports calendar: the XIII Lanzarote Golf Tour AESGOLF 2025 – Grand Teguise Playa Trophy by Teguise Turismo. In 2025, the event celebrates its thirteenth edition, confirming the destination’s commitment to active, quality tourism in harmony with the environment.
After a tour of the entire Iberian peninsula, with six men’s and three women’s tournaments held from May to November in different regions such as Asturias, the Basque Country, Madrid, Catalonia and Valencia, the grand finale of this tournament is held every December on Lanzarote, the Different Island. This year the dates are set for 12th and 13th December!
This event is usually considered very attractive in the sector because every year it is host to the well-known Media Cup by Grand Teguise Playa, in which journalists from the media such as Televisión Española (RTVE), MARCA, La Sexta, Mediaset, COPE, El Español, ABC or Canal Sur, among many others, take part.
In short, Lanzarote is not just a place to visit to play golf. Whether you’re looking to improve your handicap or just want to get away for a few days and relax, you’ll find the perfect balance between sport and pleasure here.
So, now you know: pack your clubs, book your tee time and get ready to play a round… in paradise.
