Playing golf on Lanzarote gives you the chance to take a relaxed walk for hours along fairways surrounded by palm trees, taking your swing from tees that enjoy incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean.
An independent study carried out by IE University with the collaboration of the Spanish Association of Golf Courses (AECG) and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG), shows that the golf sector generates 12,769 million euros per year in Spain and attracts 1.2 million foreign tourists, consolidating its position as the world leader in the reception of international golf tourism.
In recent months, golf has experienced a significant growth in number of fans, offering players the chance to get away from it all in large open-air environments that provide them with an appreciated sense of security.
To find out about the current situation of golf on Lanzarote, we spoke to Javier Poladura, a professional golfer from Lanzarote, who is passionate about the sport and knows every corner of the island’s courses. He is currently working at Costa Teguise Golf, together with Nicolás García, and tells us that during these months golf has been one of the sports that has been most easily taken up again, not only on the island, but also in the rest of the country and abroad.
Golf, being an individual and open-air sport, is ideal for dealing with this pandemic with confidence, and we have also seen a notable increase in the number of players of golf in Spain. In Lanzarote the same has happened, as can be seen from our Golf School, where more than 100 new players, including adults and children, have joined us – a complete success.
The large surface area of the golf courses, the maximum of 4 players in golf matches and progressive 10-minute tee off times together ensure that there is no crowding and that golf is a safe sport with practically no risk.
The application of a simple and highly effective protocol is also important, such as the arrangement of hydroalcoholic gels at the entrance to the Club, the removal of the rakes from the bunkers to avoid their handling, and the adaptation of the holes to avoid contact, guaranteeing distance between players without difficulty.

Lanzarote is one of the best destinations in Europe for the practice of this sport due to the climate and the courses we have here, two magnificent courses that are very different in terms of design and difficulty, but which respect the island’s volcanic environment, making a round of golf here a unique and uncommon experience.
Lanzarote has established itself over the last 10 years as a highly coveted destination for national competitions such as the Premium Gambito Golf Circuit and the National Grand Final Lanzarote Senior Aesgolf – Trofeo Grand Teguise Playa which are played at Costa Teguise Golf and Lanzarote Golf Resort and colour the ESD Calendar green from the end of November to mid-December.
